Situé dans la commune résidentielle de Chêne-Bougeries, ce projet concerne l’extension et l’assainissement énergétique complet d’une villa existante. L’intervention vise à améliorer les performances énergétiques, le confort et la qualité spatiale de l’habitation tout en préservant l’identité architecturale de la construction d’origine.

Pensé comme une transformation cohérente plutôt qu’une simple addition, le projet repose sur un dialogue attentif entre l’existant et la nouvelle extension, afin de garantir une continuité architecturale et une pertinence durable dans le temps. L’objectif est de créer un ensemble résidentiel intemporel, où les interventions contemporaines viennent compléter et valoriser le caractère de la villa existante.

Un dialogue subtil entre l’ancien et le nouveau

The Villa Vela is a two-story house on the lake of Murten. Simplicity was the supreme design rule. The house is comprised of a single rectangular body that is sliced in half by a single diagonal wall, which distinctly separates the public and private.

The seemingly floating C-shaped top floor revels in the superb lake view and natural surroundings, absorbed by the glass windows that shape three sides of the house. And while the solid upper stands in equilibrium, the bottom floor is set back allowing the concrete wall to pierce through to the outside and thereby enhancing the play of balance.

Set on the hillside of Lausanne, this residential building reacts to its context with an innovative form. Inspired by the duality of the amethyst gemstone, the building’s two textural faces mimic the contrast of texture and composition.

The precious inner stone is represented through the building’s gleaming glass panes and polished metal paneling, which allows for the public spaces to glimmer in sunlight. The amethyst’s mineral crust is represented by a coarse textured wall that protects the private spaces and allows for a dichotomy of space and plan. The resulting shape is an irregular polygon that holds within itself an elegant convergence of two elemental forms.

The residential block that is in the realm of the city is subjected to a careful composition with the elements that constitute the facade. The result is a united body that can effortlessly be customisable and appropriated by the various owners.

We live in an era in which refurbishment and restoration have become ever so important. Every building subject to time and elements may be understood as a sort of “Cinderella”, perhaps over worked and covered in soot, awaiting a magic wand that will enhance the underlying beauty.

This project focused on the cosmetic uplifting of the building, and the interior experienced an integral refurbishment.
